Our family position as I saw them ...

2013

The story of Angioplasty to treat me :

On that fateful Sunday, I finished my lunch, and was resting on the bed. I felt uneasy and my left  hand was terribly paining. I felt little giddiness. Ravi and Saroj just finished their lunch. thought  probably this might be due to gas trouble.  I requested Ravi to bring the  ENO Tablets. He went and brought the  tablet in a short while. Saroj noticed the uneasiness on my face, and I was profusely sweating. The tablet did not do any good. We were supposed to attend the Reception function of Shri. Padmanabhan's son, (Greenville bldg.)

So,  our family Dr. Shivaram was contacted over phone. Being Sunday, his clinic was closed. He was answering from Thane. After hearing the symptoms he sensed the trouble and adviced to contact  a specialist at Ghatkopar west. By that time, I was unconscious for a long time. They took me to clinic, my BP, checked, series of Heart attacks were noticed. The said to admit to a big hospital, preferably Kohinoor multi speciality hospital. The Ambulance was arranged. The process took so much time, and by the time I was admitted at Kohinoor hospital it was  12-30 pm. I was examined and admitted to ICU. I was able to hear the doctor nurses,  and Ravi/Saroj discussing etc;  first time I opened my eyes was when I was resting on the cot in a ward after the Angioplasty operation. Mrs. Trupti wagh, had come to see me. I could feel the pain at my chest etc; Now I wanted to go to toilet.

Difficulty in passing urine was first noticed. Catathrod was fixed.

During the Angioplasty operation, Saroj and Ravi undergone so much of mental torcher and trouble.  I'm very sorry for them. Because of me they have to undergo so much of trouble.
Totally I was at Kohinoor for 13 days (?) So many tests, were conducted. Ravi started attending office. But Saroj did her best. She has to travel alone in Rikshaw and attend the house hold duties and has to run to hospital. Fortunately, our house was very near to hospital. Neighbours Smt. Kotian and others were very helpful.

Prakash was at Toronto Canada. He came to see me after I was discharged from hospital. Dr. Deepak Shinde, was the chief surgeon, and Cardiologist. He was very good doctor.  catheter was fixed and I went to a Doctor called Mahajan ghatkopar east.  Nearly 4-5 months I was under his care.

Number of tests conducted were numerous. Blood, Urine, Exray, Lipid profile test, Strength tests, and other tests.

Cataract Operation : (2017)

first for Left eye :  (This was the affected one) This was conducted on 17 sept, 2017, After one and half month, Right eye was done.  20th, Nov, 2017. The cost of operation per eye was Rs.49,400/-
So many eye drops and tablets were administered. The operation is very costly compared to some who could get it nearly half the cost. Children and Saroj were great to arrange for this eye operation.
I fell that I'm a lucky man to have this luxury. Now the eye sight has very good and now I must be very careful to retain the same condition and should not be burden further. I  was invited to (By Bharath pawar, and Chagani) attended our Institute's 94th Founders day function on 3rd, Dec, 2017. It was very good and I met so many friends after much time.

Our Family at Holalkere :

Shyanubhogue Sunkada Venkatanarayanappa, Subbamma, had 4 sons, and daughtgers.

Our family consisted of 4 brothers, no sisters, father, mother. In fact we were not having any guests for so many years. Hardly I can count one or two relatives once in some ocassios.

Our maternal uncle (Mava) visited. I remember and my Grand mother (Mother's mother) once visited.  Although my mother had sisters, none of them visited us during my stay at Holalkere for 20 years.  When our Father died in the year 1959 our Doddamm, Doddappa, Sisters, Mava, had come to help us.

From father's side My Doddappa shri. Ramaswamaiah, used to come every year to perform their Father's Ceremony. Or my father used to visit him at Berur for the same purpose mentioned above.

Janamma was our Atte, but never visited us at Holalkere.  Her daughter Ratnamma, used to visit once in a year. She was very talktave and daring. Shamanna was her son.

Regarding our uncle Subbarao, he was not well, mentally upset and remained in the stage for several years, until he died.

A daring lady-My Aunt :

My Chikkamma, (Smt. Padmavathamma)  a daring lady, used to manage her house, without much resources. The possessed a few acres of land and used to get some crops, from their farmer. No earning members in the family. Son, Krishna rao joined as school teacher and got the first appointment. The second son, Ramu became hindi pandit in local High school and used to help the family. One more sister, Chi. Sow, Nagamma got  married, to Shri. Jairamrao of Sasalu village, ajamindar. The elder sisters, Lalithamma,  Sharadamma, were married before my birth.

Smt. Subbalakshamma who married Shri. Thimmappaiah was one of the most helpful and influencial daughter, who contributed so much for the upbringing of their children.

Life at Holalkere in 1950-59 :

I was 6 years old and Chandranna, was 4 then. Holalkere was very calm and quiet hamlet, by 8-30 pm. All our neighbors used to prepare for sleaping. Except on Full moon days streets were seen and we used to sit outside after dinner, and dissuss about the affaris of the day. No radio, Telephon, Television, and Mobile, Ocassionally an Aeroplance used to fly on our village attracting the villagers and it used to provide sufficient material for discussion.  No one around us have travellend in an Aeroplane and gone abroad. We did not have a graduate amidst of our family. Even distant relatives were also like us.
So, our knowledge of  outside world was almost nil.
When Ramakrishna visitig holalkere once in a week or two it used to provide a great source of information to the outside world.
Appa although had vast knowledge of Mumbai and other places where he used to go on transfer, was not providing interesting informations to us. The age difference betwwn our father was 50 years, and we used to fear to our father than being close to him. We dare not ask any question to him.

Mother was narrating stories of Ramayana, Mahabharatha Naladamayanthi, and so many other general stories.
Up to nearly 18 years, we grew up listening to the stories from our mother repeatedely with out getting bored. We did not any options either. Ocassionally some street dramas used to enacted by Bhagawatar and we were the first one to watch those dramas, from 10 pm to early morning 4-30 am. That was one of the greatest entertainments to us.

At Mumbai :

After my education  for job,  I never opted for Bombay although I wanted to see the city. All the people whom I met all our telling it is place where one gets robbed easily, and one might end up his or her life in an accident. Our Gudi Gopalajja of Gopala deavara devasthana had a frightening experience of his son, Seenanna. Like any person going from small city to bigger cities, Sinanna (Shrinivas) went to Bombay and worked in one of the Udupi hotels as a server, later as a cashier for nearly 15 years. Whenever he visited holalkere, he used to bring so many articles like fancy bags, and articles which were not available here. He had some cash also. Since he was fair in complexion, and used to speak Hindi, and english, all of us impressed. When he came for the third time, he was very much upset. His
room was ransacked and he was robed. He took this to his heart, with ailing he was unable to work, and died there. It very difficult his body back to holalkere, and do the final rites. This incident sent shock waves for the people wanted to visit Mumbai.

For me being qualified in Textiles, I had no option but to opt for Mumbai. 4 options were open to me either to go to Coimbatore, Pondicherry, Bombay or Ahmedabad. Many of my friends took textile jobs at Bombay and Ahmedabad. So I decided to go to Bombay

Sanjivanna :

Sanjivanna, was a role model for all of us; he went to Bombay, in his 20s and made his living at Bombay. He was staying at Bombay working in Mrs. Glaxo co; and he has made a home for himself. When Rao and Attige visited Holalkere we learnt so many things about Bombay. Our Doddappa used to tell many experinces of Bombay. Without knowing a bit of Hindi, he managed to visit Bombay. This incident has totally changed the concept which we had about Bombay earlier.

I lived at Holalkere for 17-18 years, without knowing any thing about the outside world. Even Bengaluru was quite strange city, except people there spoke kannada

After our marriage on 10th June, 1973 at Chitradurga,  we immediately came to Bombay, and stayed at Wadala, near Station. Mumbai

We were staying at The Central Govt. Staff Qts. Wadala

My marriage with Chi. Sow. Saroja, on 10th, June, 1973 !

It was one my memorable events in my life. I was 29 years and whenever I went to native place, many times in connection of selecting a suitable girl and get married.  Amma, like all mothers, was telling me it is right time and actually late and I should marry and settle down in life. She was feeling like all Indian mothers that by marriage her duty will be over. Still one more son is yet to be married. (Chandranna) I agreed  and came in search of a suitable girl nearly three times. One girl was Shankar's cousin sister. It was not materialised She did not approve me. Another was one from a friends side it, did not work.

I came to Chitradurga, where Nagaraj, was staying with my Sister's family. Nagaraj suggested Chi. Sow. Saroja, daughter of my sister Smt. Subbalakshamma. He told me see her once. I agreed. So, Akka told that she was staying at Kalaghatta. In the evening She and her brother, Chi. Venkatesha,  came to chitradurga. We both saw each other. She was good looking and would be an ideal house wife as suggested by Nagaraj and others. When I went to Bengaluru Nagaraj had briefed about this development. Amma knew the girl and she had all praises. So, I gave my consent and went to Bombay.

Among the alliances my sister lakshmidevamma's  daughter Radhamani, was also there. Some how, it did not work. Already Nagaraj has married Nagamaniyamma, and I did not like one more girl from that house.
